Parasites and Microbes

The Parasites and Microbes Informatics team develops and maintains software applications and systems to support the research activities of the Parasites and Microbes programme.

We are a team of dedicated Bioinformaticians and Software Developers with a passion for genomics and its impact on the fight against infectious diseases, focused on supporting research activities of the Parasites and Microbes programme.

Our current work includes the following activities:

• Ad-hoc Informatics and Data Analysis support to members of the programme via a help-desk
• Development and maintenance of automated pipelines for high-throughput sequencing data
• Development of interactive platforms for tracking and sharing genomic data and research findings
• Packaging of bioinformatics software and deployment on internal Compute Platforms
• Development of training material for bioinformatics analysis

We work closely with our scientific partners in the Parasites and Microbes Programme, providing key support for large-scale surveillance activities, focusing on infectious diseases such as cholera, Covid-19, flu, helminthiasis, neonatal invasive disease, pneumonia, RSV infections, and more. In addition, we collaborate with core IT services and other informatics teams across the site to ensure seamless operations.

We embrace agile methodologies, actively promote open-source software development, and foster collaboration, teamwork and engagement.

Our technical stack includes Python, JavaScript, Docker, Kubernetes, and Nextflow, among others.
