Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH)
What We Do
GA4GH Work Streams create products that encourage responsible international genomic data use. These teams from around the globe build standards, frameworks, and tools that overcome technical and regulatory hurdles. Join any Work Stream related to your field and interests. All Work Streams follow the Code of Ethics and Community Conduct.
![]() Clinical & Phenotypic Data Capture Work StreamStandardise the representation and exchange of phenotypic, pedigree, clinical, and exposome data. |
![]() Cloud Work Stream“Bring compute to the data” by defining, sharing, and executing portable workflows across different compute environments. |
![]() Data Security Work StreamDevelops products and guidelines to safeguard privacy, data integrity, and service availability. |
![]() Data Use & Researcher Identity Work StreamCreates tools to communicate who can access datasets for which purposes. Helps confirm user identity and match researcher type to data permissions. |
![]() Discovery Work StreamHelps researchers and clinicians explore worldwide genomic variations through products for searching and exchanging genomic data. |
![]() Genomic Knowledge Standards Work StreamDesigns standards that enable computer-to-computer exchange of genomic information, improving search and application of genomic knowledge. |
![]() Large-Scale Genomics Work StreamDevelops products to describe, compress, store, encrypt, and transfer genomic data in a scalable way. |
![]() Regulatory & Ethics Work StreamDevelops policies, tools, and standards addressing regulatory and ethical considerations in genomic research and international data sharing. |
Communities of Interest
GA4GH convenes Communities of Interest, providing forums for researchers, clinicians, and experts to uncover needs in specific domains, exchange best practices, and advance real-world use cases involving GA4GH products.

External partners and funders
GA4GH works across a spectrum of institutions — Funders, Expert Providers, Strategic Partners, and Driver Projects — bringing together expertise and resources to drive global genomic interoperability.
External
Funders Forum
The GA4GH Funders Forum consists of Host Institutions, Core Funders, Supporting Funders, and Assigned Expert Funders. The Funders Forum provides both financial support and strategic guidance to GA4GH.
External
Strategic Partners
Some Organisational Members whose networks or infrastructure align with GA4GH priorities have made a long-term commitment to engaging with our community.
External
Driver Projects
Genomic data initiatives around the world develop and pilot GA4GH products and applies them to real genomic data.
