BCL Uploader is a desktop application our MalariaGEN partners can use to upload sequencing data to the cloud service of Wellcome Sanger Institute for further bioinformatic analysis. It is part of a suite of software products created for malaria parasite and mosquito surveillance as part of the MalariaGEN initiative.

It was built to support MalariaGEN partners generating sequencing data in regional laboratories to use as an alternative to other more manual upload methods (like SFTP).

It supports our partners in high disease burden countries, and is built with the mindfulness that stable power and internet connectivity across many countries in the world today continues to be a challenge. The application has built in redundancy to ensure continuity in the event of a power or internet connection interruption. The BCL Uploader also selectively zips the files necessary for bioinformatics analysis, removing large image files that are not used for pipeline analysis therefore reducing file size and upload time for the user.
