Dr Nina White

Senior Data Scientist

I currently work within the Malaria Parasite Surveillance team within the Genomic Surveillance Unit. We process, analyse, and interpret genomic information from malaria parasites of the genus Plasmodium, and support our partners to do the same. We also research and develop ways to improve our service. This work helps to track the evolution of the parasite and in turn supports public health decision making to better mitigate malaria.

My background is in the field of conservation genetics, wildlife disease, and molecular ecology – having completed my PhD on the co-evolution of a Critically Endangered amphibian and the fungal disease chytridiomycosis. The common thread through my career has been the use of genomic data to tackle infectious disease and I am excited about the potential of genomic surveillance to tackle many more diseases in the future.
