Taking Part in the Bleeds Study
We need your help with a Sanger research study
This study aims to improve our understanding of menstrual fluid (period blood) and the different types of cells it contains. We want to find out how these cells vary between individuals and how they relate to reproductive health conditions.
If you choose to take part, you will be asked to provide a sample of your menstrual fluid and a vaginal swab. You will be given clear instructions and a collection kit to help you do this safely and comfortably at home. You may also be asked if you would be willing to donate a biopsy (a small sample of tissue) for research. Taking part in any of these parts is optional, and you can decide which samples you are happy to provide.
You are eligible to participate if you:
- Menstruate
- Do not have a current or previous diagnosis of cancer of the reproductive tract (e.g. ovarian cancer, uterine cancer)
If you are interested in taking part, please read the attached information sheet. To take part in the study, please contact cuh.bleeds@nhs.net.
The clinical team at The Rosie Hospital, working alongside Dr Miriam Baumgarten, will follow up with initial screening questions where you will receive more information on how to proceed.
If you have any questions about the study, please contact Iva Kelava (ik9@sanger.ac.uk)
This project has been created in consultation with the Sanger Research Governance team under the name “Generating a reproduction related tissues-derived organoid, cell line and data repository” and has been approved by the London – Stanmore Research Ethics Committee (REC reference 25/LO/0357).
