I am interested in monitoring Anopheles populations, in particular their intra- and inter-species diversity. The Lawniczak group has developed a genus-wide targeted amplicon sequencing approach, which facilitates large scale population monitoring of major and minor vector species as well as non-vector species. Such tools are able to expose local population composition, which is necessary to inform malaria control efforts. I am developing methods to analyse the sequences generated by the amplicon panel: to predict the clade and species each mosquito belongs to, to study diversity of populations and to analyse Plasmodium (malaria) infections.
