I am a joint PhD student between David Adams (Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute) and Gillian Griffiths (Cambridge Institute for Medical Research). My work focuses on cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), which form a fundamental part of the adaptive immune system. CTLs are implicated in a wide variety of diseases, ranging from cancers to viral diseases and autoimmune disorders. My PhD project aims to set up a genetic screen to identify genes that regulate the cytotoxic function of these cells. This will provide insights into how CTLs function and kill virally infected and cancerous cells.
