Dr David Parry-Smith

Head of Cellular Informatics

Alumni

This person is a member of Sanger Institute Alumni.

After 13 years of exciting and challenging work supporting science at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, I decided to retire in December 2025.

I will be spending more time thinking about genomics and the informatics of biology than is possible in an operational role.

Music has been my passion since I first began learning the piano and organ as a youngster. I will be spending considerable time continuing to develop those skills as a professional musician.

Dr Parry-Smith leads the Cellular Informatics Team.

His role is to interact with scientists at all levels, understand and gather requirements for developing and maintaining informatics systems supporting Stem Cell Engineering. He is a biophysicist software developer interested in bioinformatics of genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9 (see WGE), algorithms for tracking lab processes and sequence pattern recognition.
