I research the expression of olfactory receptor genes that allow animals to detect odorants and smell. I am interested in understanding why every individual smells the world differently.

I use transcriptomics to characterise the expression of the olfactory receptor genes in different genetic backgrounds and environmental conditions. This is enabling me to understand how these differences lead to the creation of a nose that is unique for each individual, with particular sensing characteristics.
