Rachel worked with the Director, Heads of Programmes and Faculty to support the development of the Institute’s scientific strategy and research vision. This included reviewing existing research activities, developing and implementing new initiatives such as the Associate Research Programme, supporting changes in Faculty and leading on the five-year research plan for GRL with colleagues.

Rachel worked closely with the Scientific and Management Operations teams to provide high-level research and financial management information, intelligence, briefing and counsel to the Director. She planned, led and coordinated the science strategy elements of the main governance boards eg GRL Board, Board of Management and the Institute’s Scientific Advisory Board to support the delivery of the Institute’s mission. She was supported in her role by Steven Zemke, the Faculty Planning Manager.

Rachel did a PhD at the MRC National Institute of Medical Research, Mill Hill and has a research background in basic neurosciences. Rachel was a Programme Manager at MRC Head Office in Neurosciences before she moved to the MRC Epidemiology Unit, Cambridge where she was the Assistant Director of Operations. She also has some experience working in industry and the charitable sector.
