Background
I have long been fascinated to better understand the “rules” by which protein sequences encode their particular functions, how these rules emerge from basic biochemistry, and how they shape evolutionary trajectories. In my PhD, I worked jointly with Rachelle Gaudet and Debora Marks to better understand how substrate specificity is encoded in one of the most dynamic classes of proteins, membrane transporters. I also developed a strong interest in models inferred from natural sequences and how can we best use them to guide our exploration of protein biophysics.
