Emily Mobley | Media Manager

Mobley, Emily

Emily is responsible for media relations and coordination. She supports the media team in publicising the fascinating research and stories from the Sanger Institute and wider Wellcome Genome Campus – from sequencing the genomes of all species across the British Isles to tracking outbreaks around the globe.

My favourite thing about working at the Sanger Institute is knowing the people you work alongside are pushing the boundaries in genomics and biological data to improve human health and understand life on Earth. The media team and I get a real buzz from working closely with researchers to tell the stories that will hit the headlines and ultimately impact on society.

Within the Communications team I manage the media team’s activities, which include producing press releases, pitching features, creating videos and infographics, organising journalist visits and training Sanger researchers on how to speak to the media. We share Sanger’s science and other stories with local, national and international media, as well as technical and trade press. We work with reporters in TV, radio, print and online media.

My highlights:

My passion for biology came from growing up as a keen member of wildlife watch, and having a biologist for a mother. While studying biology at university I wrote for the science section of the university newspaper. I quickly became hooked on creating engaging articles based on research papers that were read by my peers.
