Allan Daly

Senior Bioinformatician

Allan works in the Human Genetics Informatics team to provide data processing and handling of Next Generation Sequence for the Human Genetics Programme. Allan is also associated with the Metabolic Disease Group where he provides data processing and informatics support to their research programme.

With a degree in Molecular Biology I started work in the lab with an interest in genetics and how to apply this to enhance the development of improved crop plants. As DNA sequencing technology advanced I gradually moved away from wet science into the developing field of DNA sequence analysis and bioinformatics. I moved from the plant field into human research around 10 years ago due to the medical field being more mature and offering more opportunities to develop my skills. I enjoy the complex nature of DNA sequence data and the problem solving skills required in order to utilise the information for identifying disease causing mutations.
