The Spatial core facility aims to scale high-throughput spatial technologies that integrate spatial context with genomic data. We generate high-quality reproducible datasets to enable deeper characterisation of tissue architecture and cellular heterogeneity in health and disease, accelerating discovery through collaboration.

My day-to-day role includes performing a range of histology and spatial work, including:

  • Histology and sample quality control: Tissue processing, block embedding, sectioning (complex requests to a high standard for a variety of uses including morphology QC, RNA extractions, Visium and Xenium), H&E staining, digital pathology imaging and RNA quality checks for fresh frozen and FFPE samples.
  • Spatial Genomics: 10x Genomics Visium (Visium Fresh Frozen v1, Visium CytAssist v2 and Visium HD, including modified protocols and post-Xenium CytAssist) and 10x Genomics Xenium (v1 and Prime, including custom panels)
  • Data and documentation: Writing and reviewing risk assessments, standard operating procedures and training competency forms. Quality Champion, ensuring accurate and timely record keeping of team training, quality issues and documentation. Use of a bespoke LIMS system to track labwork and samples.
