Kylie is a postdoctoral researcher specialising in single-cell transcriptomics to follow immune cell responses of the human colon.
Kylie's research passion lies in understanding how a body’s immune cells behave in a healthy state and how they combat or contribute to disease. In her doctorate at the University of Queensland, Australia, she investigated mechanisms shaping the response of these cells to malaria, a major burden on world health. In her current position, Kylie applies cutting-edge single-cell RNA sequencing technology to studying the immune environment of the human gut and importantly how it changes in relation to the neighbouring bacteria. This will serve as a reference for future studies into diseases characterised by breakdown in the relationship between these cellular communities. Kylie’s work also contributes to a large international collaboration - the Human Cell Atlas - that aims to create the first comprehensive map of all cells in the human body.
