Human Resources

Management Operations

The Human Resources Team support the Institute with all its people process, such as recruitment, pay and development. Our role is to help ensure that the Wellcome Sanger Institute is a great place to work, utilising engaged individuals that contribute in the pursuit of world class science.

We are a diverse and inclusive environment that operates on a vibrant and collaborative campus located on the outskirts of Cambridge. We are committed to developing and maintaining a forward-looking organisation where people from all backgrounds can thrive. Our supportive family friendly approach enables everyone at all levels to balance their professional and home lives. We have excellent café and restaurant facilities, an on-site nursery, Campus summer holiday club, on-site bank with cash machine, a fully equipped gym and studio, and extensive grounds and wetlands accessible to staff.

We employ around 1,200 staff at the Sanger Institute, with the wider campus employing 2,500 staff in total. The HR Recruitment team support all aspects of recruitment for the Institute, working with managers and candidates to recruit individuals with the right behaviours and skills, who will contribute to the success of our organisation. As a large percentage of our employees are international workers, we also have immigration expertise to help with all such queries. If you have any questions about working at the Sanger, your job application or the recruitment process you can contact the resourcing team directly: recruit@sanger.ac.uk

Our Learning and Development specialists ensure that we have a first class framework in place to nurture talent, which is delivered in training rooms and lecture theatres on site. They ensure the right performance management systems are in place, backed by training and development programmes which enable individuals to enhance their skills and knowledge, whilst progressing their career at Sanger.

The wider HR team support all aspects of working life, from administration and management support of structures and working relationships through to an engagement team that look to support and develop an exciting place to work through a wide range of staff initiatives.  We are continually looking for new ways to develop our employment offer, building on an excellent range of benefits already in place to reflect the value we place on our people.
