Chiyun is interested in exploring novel methods for optimising methods of data preparation and analysis in malaria genomics

Chiyun joined the Genomic Surveillance Unit in July 2023 as a Senior Data Scientist.

Before joining the Sanger Institute, Chiyun was at AstraZeneca as an R&D Global Graduate Associate where he worked as the lead analyst in multiple clinical trials, engineered novel algorithms for studying ECG device data, and helped develop biological knowledge graphs.

Chiyun trained originally as a molecular biologist at the University of Cambridge, before he began doing research on antimicrobial resistance in Candida yeast and transmission-blocking vaccines for malaria. Through this work, he developed a broader passion towards bioinformatics, epidemiology, and computer science.
