The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute Pathogen Sequencing Unit (PSU) is partially shotgun sequencing the nuclear genome of the livestock-infective Trypanosoma congolense. This will serve as a useful comparative genomics resource to complement the genomes of Trypanosoma vivax and Trypanosoma brucei, which is currently being sequenced in collaboration between the PSU and The Institute for Genomic Research. The T. congolense and T. vivax partial shotgun projects are being carried out in collaboration with David Barry (Glasgow University, UK), Alberto Davila (Instituto Oswalso Cruz, Brazil), Phelix Majiwa (International Livestock Institute, Kenya) and Sara Melville (University of Cambridge, UK).
