Entamoeba terrapinae is a commensal organism of turtles. Very little is known about it except that based on rDNA studies it is not specifically related to any of the other Entamoeba species under study. Strain M is being studied, which was isolated a Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta).
As part of the comparative Entamoeba sequencing project we have produced approximately 30,000 sequences from E. terrapinae. These raw sequence reads are now available for FTP download and BLAST searching.
PLEASE NOTE: Contamination of the second ligation of E. terrapinae with E. histolytica sequence has been discovered. The contaminant sequences will be removed from the data set in due course. In the mean time, the E. terrapinae data set on the BLAST server has been split into its three constituent ligations. Users are advised to view results from ligation 2 with caution.
