EnsEMBL provides information about other members of the same gene family and also similar genes in other species. Starting from a 'GeneView' page, you can retrieve this information under 'Protein Family' and 'Orthologue Prediction' (see above). The closest matches are listed under 'Similarity matches'.
EnsEMBL also offers comparisons to other species which can be switched on in 'ContigView' under the 'Compara' option.
Chosing these options adds the appropriate features to 'ContigView'.
Via the mouse over, the compara features allow jumps to 'MultiContigView', where you can get more information about the extend of the homology and overall synteny. You can also navigate there using the 'Jump to' option in the feature bar. For example, the Fugu-Zebrafish translated Blat results for the daxx gene (used above) take you to the below page.
In Vega, you can get homolog information through the list of the supporting evidence that was used to annotate this gene. This mostly includes the closest matches from other species, notably human and mouse (see below).
