Notes on methods used in Ruvkun, XXXXX, Science, XXXXX (1998)

All searches were done on the Sanger Website http://www.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/blast/submitblast/c_elegans, which includes data from WashU. Routinely, searches were first performed as BLASTP on Wormpep15 and afterwards confirmed with a TBLASTN on the GENOMIC dataset. The latter proved necessary because there are still some unfinished sequences, which have not been run through GENEFINDER and put in Wormpep. The searches were confirmed and completed on Mon.11/2 (i.e. with the new Wormpep15, which I believe was released on 10/22.

Vertebrate and fly sequences were retrieved from NCBI's GenBank.
