Tim is a PhD student in the Mathematical Genomics and Medicine programme, supervised by Mike Stratton and Iñigo Martincorena at the Sanger Insitute, and by Elizabeth Murchison at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge.

My research focuses on whole-body lineage tracing in humans using mosaic somatic mutations. From the moment the fertilised egg starts dividing, cells will acquire mutations that will be retained by its progeny. Hence, the somatic mutations a cell has acquired describe its journey from the zygote to the adult state. The occurence of these mutations across a human body indicate a developmental relationship between those tissues and collectively, these mutations can be used to recreate a phylogenetic tree of human development.
