Our Scientific Advisory Board

The discussions and decisions of our Board of Management are guided by the expert advice of our illustrious Scientific Advisory Board. Their valued, regular review of our research is essential to our mission and focus.

Members of the Scientific Advisory Board

Professor Neal Copeland

Professor Neal Copeland established the Mouse Cancer Genetics Program at the National Cancer Institute-Frederick in 1999. He has since moved to become Executive Director the Institute of Molecular Cell Biology in Singapore, where he carries out research using model organisms.

Professor Nick Hastie

Professor Nick Hastie is the Director of the Medical Research Council Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh and is also Director of the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine. His research interests are in medical and developmental genetics.

Professor David Haussler

Professor David Haussler is Director of the Center for Biomolecular Science and Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz and Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research develops new statistical and algorithmic methods to explore the molecular evolution of the human genome.

Professor Philip Ingham

Professor Phillip Ingham is head of the Medical Research Council Centre for Developmental Biomedical Genetics and is currently on a part-time secondment as Deputy Director of the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Singapore. His research focus is on cell-signalling controls.

Professor David Lipman

Professor David Lipman is the Director of the National Center for Biotechnology Information at the National Institutes of Health, home to the world's largest sequencing database GenBank. His research interests are in sequence comparison methods; comparative genomics; and molecular evolution.

Professor Kevin Marsh

Professor Kevin Marsh leads the Centre for Microbiology Research at the Kenya Medical Research Institute. He has many roles in global health advisory groups and his research interests are focused on child health in the tropics.

Professor Sir Paul Nurse

Professor Paul Nurse is President of The Rockefeller University; his primary research interest is in the cell cycle of fission yeast. In 2001, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicinefor his work on cell cycle regulation.

Dr Edward Rubin

Dr Edward Rubin is Director of the Joint Genome Institute and leads the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Genomics Division at the University of California. He played a major role in the Human Genome Project and his research is in the development of computational and biological approaches to genetics.

Professor Gerald M Rubin

Professor Gerald Rubin is the Director of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Janelia Farm Research Campus. His laboratory looks at gene-regulation and genome-wide research and he led the effort to sequence the Drosophila melanogaster genome.

Professor George Weinstock

Professor George Weinstock is Associate Director at The Genome Center at Washington University. Prior to joining The Genome Center in 2008, he was Co-Director of the Human Genome Sequencing Center at the Baylor College of Medicine, where he played a leading role in the Human Genome Project.
