Experiencing Sanger science

We invite you to experience genomics research in the making and be party to the healthcare revolution. The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in the generation, analysis, interpretation and understanding of genome sequences. It played a key role in one of the biggest collaborative science projects to date -the Human Genome Project (HGP). This project has revolutionised the way scientists across the world look at the role of our genes and genomes in human health and disease.

Today the Institute continues to be at the forefront of genomics research. Over the next decade our research will be translated into clinical applications and embedded in mainstream medicine. This will bring major advances but also ethical challenges to global health and lifestyle.

Please note that due to construction work on campus we are unable to offer any visits to the Institute in 2014. The new developments will enable us to offer you more exciting, customised visits on the Genome Campus. We hope to resume visits from February 2015. If you would like to arrange a visit, please complete the booking enquiry form and email it to pubengage@sanger.ac.uk.

  • The basics of DNA, genes and genomes
  • Genomes and genetic variation
  • The genetics of cancer
  • Human variation in health and disease
  • Microorganisms that cause human disease
  • Human populations and the origins of humans
